EMPLOYABILITY TRAINING PROGRAM

RAW’s employability training program is based on using a ‘student-centred’ methodology. Our primary focus is on learning experiences that recognise and respond to the individual needs of jobseekers. RAW supports and encourages all members of our communities in which we operate to become ‘active learners for life’, working to enhance the workforce opportunities within the civil and construction industry.

A common barrier to employment for Aboriginal jobseekers is a lack of knowledge of the soft skills and appropriate documentation needed to apply, secure, and sustain work. These skills are not taught extensively at schools or vocational colleges, and they create a gap for Aboriginal jobseekers. Our employability training program equips jobseekers with entry-level knowledge and skills that enable them to act in effective and successful ways within the workplace and the industry.

RAW’s EMPLOYABILITY TRAINING IS BASED ON THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS:

  • Workplace communication – interview skills, conflict resolution and professional communication
  • Employee documentation – resume preparation and advice
  • Personal development – goal setting and timelines for achievement (supporting by mentoring)
  • Work-ready audit – checklist of agreed goals for participants to see their own progress

STRUCTURED MENTOR SUPPORT

RAW’s workplace mentor program is designed to support Aboriginal employees by providing a trusted resource for guidance and support. By employing industry-experienced mentors from Aboriginal communities, we give Aboriginal jobseekers the best chance at forming a meaningful and constructive connection. After RAW has successfully matched the mentee and mentor, over a period 6-12 months the mentee and mentor set goals, develop strategies to achieve them. Collectively the mentor and mentee will define aspirations, collaborate with one another, and together evaluate the success of workplace participation and life goals.
